This week Bangor Regatta 2024 Chairman, Gavin Watson (far left) attended the unveiling of a new trophy for cruising yachts at Royal Ulster Yacht Club (RUYC).
Royal Ulster Yacht Club's Autumn Series is underway
Royal Ulster Yacht Club's Autumn Series is well and truly underway. The event which, this year, runs from Sunday 17th September 2023 through to Sunday 29th October 2023 had twelve yachts cross the most recent start line.

I have a very potent meteorology indicator in my back yard, it's called a brown bin. When it's upturned and sliding around skippers and crews head to the pub. That was certainly the case yesterday as I was walking my almost airborne little dog around Ballyholme Beach.
Breezy Single Race Brings Bangor Town Regatta to a Close
The southerly wind today (Sunday), Day 4 of Royal Ulster’s Bangor Town Regatta wasn’t quite as enthusiastic as it was yesterday when racing was cancelled, so Principal Race Officer Con Murphy got the fleet away in 25 knots gusting 30, for what turned out to be the final race of the series.

Day 2 of Sailing at BTR
No problem getting the fleet underway yesterday morning in a brisk warm southerly. Conditions epitomized the reason why Belfast Lough has the reputation of being one of the finest locations for on the water competition in Ireland especially when the wind is in the south.
Strong Breezes Start Day Two of Bangor Town Regatta on Belfast Lough
What a difference a day makes! There’s a eucalyptus tree near my house and if it’s all moving there’s a good chance the fleet is thrashing about Belfast Lough half a mile away. It was pretty active today.

BTR Gets Off to a Quiet Start on Belfast Lough
A ‘Town’ Regatta at Bangor was first held on Belfast Lough over a century ago and saw reincarnation in 2018. Subsequent regattas fell foul of Covid 19 but on 23rd June it was all systems go for the 49 boats entered in this ‘new look’ four-day event.

Con Murphy from the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire Harbour is an internationally known sailor and International Race Officer. So Bangor Town Regatta will be in safe hands as he will be the Principal Race Officer for the event to be hosted by the Royal Ulster Yacht Club at the end of June in Belfast Lough. He will have a local team helping cover the race areas.
