The Regatta team are delighted to hear of several new boats that will be sailing in Belfast Lough this year for Bangor Regatta ’24. 

Among those attending will be Jonathan Anderson from Scotland, the previous owner of “El Gran Senor”. A past winner of Bangor Regatta back in 2018, Jonathan is very much looking forward to returning to the event this year in his new yacht which is co owned with Murray Findlay, winner of Bangor Regatta in 2022 in Boxcar. 

Their new yacht, yet to be named, is an X-Yachts X4/3, some 43 feet long and powered by North Sails. She will be competing in the coastal class at Bangor Regatta. Jonathan recently commented “we have been coming to Bangor for forty years, great hospitality and craic, good race management and facilities, and less than 100 miles from home, what’s not to like?”

Added to the new contingent of yachts in Belfast Lough is Adrian Allen’s new A35 “Succession”. Adrian is no stranger to sailing in Belfast Lough, having successfully campaigned everything from a 1720’s, Sigma 33’s and many podium finishes in Hurricane 5.9 Catamarans.

Adrian, along with Brian Wilson’s new M.A.T 1010, will bring added competition to the well-established RC35 Class.

Also added to the new boats in the Lough will be at least 3 Hunter Impala’s recently acquired by a number of syndicates, including David Quinn’s new boat, Coffey/Bell/Thompson in “Menace” and the Brow/Eves/Hutchinson/Johnston syndicate in “Kahera”, which will arrive shortly from Dublin.

And our very own Rory Flannigan, Race Director of Bangor Regatta 2024, will be conflicted in his duties with his new Sonata “Sophia” racing in Class 3.
